The New Millennium in Weddings
From Princess Diana to Vera Wang. The bridal industry has gone through a metamorphous like never before.
Once an orphaned stepchild of the fashion industry, Bridal has become a fashion leader.
Weddings which were once simple, traditional and intimate affairs have become creative, elaborate, and monstrous productions.
Individuality and uniqueness crosses the gamut. Starting with the first stitch of the custom designed Wedding Gown continuing until the last monogrammed rose petal is thrown.
Not merely a sign of the new millennium of wedding design, but a chronicle of who we are and who we want to be.
We will explore where bridal has been and focus on where it is going. In the new Millennium.

Kay Watson- Education Chairman for JWI 2007
As I approach the end of my first year as chairman of Education, I reflect back upon my lack of knowledge and understanding needed to obtain the perfect speaker. I now realize it is neccessary to contact presenters that would be interesting and exciting for all the professional vendors that make up the JWI membership. Therefore I am forever grateful to my predecessor, Joanne M Kersten, for her wonderful direction, plus contracting the first few speakers before my responsibilities began in January.
Upon arriving in Dallas in 2005, from Austin, I was somewhat anxious and concerned as to how start over again in this huge city. Yet with my prior life of being a teacher, and on many boards before I began my wedding coordinating business in 1998, I have always been aware of the necessity for continuing education, joining professional organizations and networking.
Thus my search to find the “Best” wedding organization began! With each vendor visit and introduction that I attended, JWI seemed to be them magic word. My first luncheon was at the Belo Mansion, not knowing a soul, but was saved by our wonderful Pamm Meyers, who befriended me and introduced me to the crowd.
From that luncheon, the rest is history, as I have since become involved in JWI and feel that this year we have had some really great speakers and moments for our group.
Starting off 2007 with Bryan Dodge at Glen Eagles sharing “How to Build a Better You” in February, then April having the wonderful Orit at Las Colinas providing a wonderful, energetic presentation on “Branding”. We have Joanne Kersten to thank for obtaining Orit and getting her to Dallas.
In between meeting months, education decided to ventured into a new avenue with a “Bridal Brunch on the Run”, a brainstorming session for the membership to discuss certain topics. This informal gathering was very successful, with plans to have more in the future.
During August meeting we learned about man’s best friend from Dave Lieber, sharing with us his book “The Dog of My Nightmares” at the beautiful Hotel Palomar.
The October luncheon was a huge success at Arlington Hall, as it was the Second Annual Bridal Panel, requested again by the membership. This presentation appears to be one of the favorite and will continue to have many changes and improvements each year.
I am grateful to this wonderful organization and the incredibly caring group of board members I have had the privilege to work with this past year. It’s been such a joy to meet new professionals and be a part of such a kind and professional organization in this the most wonderful cities of Dallas and Fort Worth.

Fellow JWI members, thanks again for giving me the opportunity to participate on this year’s board; it’s been an honor serving you as Hospitality and Fundraising chair… and, more importantly, a lot of fun. First and foremost, I’d love to personally thank all of you who so graciously contributed throughout the year with luncheon door prizes and those whose generosity exceeded my expectations for our annual June Social. The social really came together spectacularly with your contributions and all those who contributed their talents to realize it, as well. It’s also been a pleasure working with you, the industry leaders, weekend after weekend. I look forward to creating more memorable events with you. All my best to you, Jaime. PS Once I’m settled into the married life, I look forward to serving on the board again to help our organization grow. |
